Homework Assignments for October 29th-November 2nd:

Monday:  Cut and Sort Spelling Words, Math homework Mrs. Lapham's class 4-1 and division worksheet, Realistic Fiction Work due Thursday, "Is it a sentence" grammar worksheet, first paragraph of Mystery Story final copy, read 20 minutes!

Tuesday:  practice spelling words, Mrs. Lapham's math:  reteaching 4-7, pronoun grammar worksheet, second paragraph of Mystery Story final copy, read 20 minutes!

Wednesday:  Happy Halloween!  Enjoy!  Realistic Fiction AR tests to qualify for the Gauntlet are due tomorrow!

Thursday:  Practice spelling words, Mrs. Lapham's math:  practice 4-7, Part 2 election quiz, read 20 minutes!

Friday:  Read 60 minutes over the week-end!   Practice math skills on IXL!  
Last week we read three very interesting and different picture books.  Choose one to summarize and then share your opinion about the text and why you feel that way you do about it.  Your choices are:  The Lost Boys of Hope, The Summer My Father was Ten, or Uncle Jed's Barbershop.    Remember, a summary explains the most important events of a story in a concise and careful manner.

  Please respond to the Character Counts lesson about Fairness that we worked on and discussed today.  What does it mean to be treated fairly, or to treat someone fairly?  Does is mean that everyone is always treated exactly the same?  Share your thoughts and ideas.


Homework: October 22nd-26th

This is RED RIBBON WEEK, where the students focus on HEALTHY choices, that lead to productive, happy lives.

Please remind your child to be recording the number of pages read on their Kenya Connect reading log!

Monday:  We will color red ribbons to decorate our lockers!  Students will receive their spelling instruction for their words this week.  Please encourage them to study the spelling patters each  night as they prepare for their assessment on Friday.  
Literary Pumpkin Assignment:  Please think of one of your all time favorite book characters for us to use on a special Halloween project!
Three journal responses due Friday.  
Mrs. Lapham's Math:  Week Two, Review Page.  Quiz Tomorrow!

Tuesdsay:  Practice your basic math facts!  Practice your spelling words!

Wednesday:  Mrs. Lapham's math:  Week 3 Lesson 1 Division Practice with Calculators
Social Studies: Complete study guide.  Test is on Friday!

Thursday:  Written Sort due tomorrow for spelling.
Social Studies Test Tomorrow!
Three Journal Responses due tomorrow.  (each a minimum of 5 sentences)  (this is in-class work unless not completed within the allotted time.)
Latin Directional Prefixes Packet due tomorrow. (this is in-class work unless not completed within the allotted time.)

Monday:  Ask your child about our special Kenyan storyteller!

Tuesday: Practice your spelling words!  Mrs. Lapham's math homework:  Week 2, Lesson 2.  

Wednesday:  Math and Spelling Homework.  The World Atlas page due tomorrow.  Mrs. Lapham's math homework:  Week 2, Lesson 3.  

Thursday:  Spelling test tomorrow!  Math homework.  Completed Pen-Pal letter is due tomorrow.  Mrs. Lapham's math homework:  Division Practice Worksheet.  

Friday:  IXL math practice over the week-end:  basic math facts in grade 3, multiplication and division practice in grade 5.  Remember to read voraciously this week-end!

This week in math we are studying the concept of division.  Write about anything you have learned and know about division and how it works.  Then if you feel like it, go ahead and write a division problem for your classmates to try!  Be sure you solve it yourself so you can tell us what the answer is!

I hope you have all enjoyed a fabulous long week-end!    What beautiful Fall weather we are having.

Homework and Assignments for this week:

Monday:  No School, Columbus Day!

Tuesday: 
*Spelling Words and Patterns will be instructed; each night the students should practice sorting and spelling their specific words.  
*We are continuing to build knowledge about Kenya by reading informational text, sorting and organizing that information.  This is at school work. 
*Mystery stories need to be revised by Friday. 
*Math assignments vary by class, but every child will have math homework every night!  Please practice basic math facts daily!
*Social Studies:  Homework:  workbook page 37:  #4-7 only. 

Wednesday: 
*Spelling Practice
*Mystery Revising
*Social Studies Workbook page 39

Thursday: 
*Kenya letter writing project/organizer will be introduced today.  These letters are due towards the end of next week.  They will be hand written based on the completed organizer. 
*Robert Crown Health Center Field Trip is this afternoon! (no math homework).
*Social Studies Explorer comments on fifth grade blog page are due today. 

Friday: 
*Revised Mysteries need to be turned in today!  Final drafts are due at the end of next week; typed or written neatly incorporating the revisions and comments from peers and teacher.
* Spelling Test today!  A written and alphabetical sort are due.
* Time for Kids Comprehension Quiz on the Obama and Romney Presidential Election is due today.
